Oatmeal Pastry
Versatile and fun! Layer it up with a date filling, Harvest Fruit Sauce, or use your favourite pie filling. Not only does it make an exceptional crumble dessert, but it also makes very tasty shells. To make shells this pastry must be pressed in thicker than regular pastry.
- 1-1/2 cup quick-cooking oats
- 1-1/2 cup white flour
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1-1/2 tsp salt
- 1-1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1-1/2 cup margarine
- Mix all ingredients with a fork until it resembles small peas.
- Divide dough according to the project at hand.
- Press into tart forms, muffin tins, or baking dish.
- Add filling.
- Crumble the rest of the oat mixture on top of filling.
- Preheat oven and bake at 350 F for 20 minutes.

Ingredients together with softened butter before mixing.
Use tinfoil forms to keep shells from slipping or filling in. The skewer is used to poke steam holes in the bottom of the crust which prevents shrinkage.
